Supporters of Children (SOC) is dedicated to helping make the quality of life better for children and youth in Colorado.
Through the combined efforts of partner organizations and direct donations, Supporters of Children has been able to assist hundreds of children, giving them a chance for their future.
We began nearly thirty years ago, created by a small group of individuals who felt inspired to meet the material and service needs of children in Colorado. 100% of monies raised are used to purchase goods and services directly for children in Colorado. Our board members or specific contributors generously provide for all overhead expenses. We identify children in need through partnerships with carefully selected organizations.
Over the years, SOC has partnered with more than 30 organizations to assist thousands of children and young people in Colorado. Brief descriptions of some of past distributions are on our website under both the “Welcome” and the “Testimonials” tabs.
Our current partner organizations are Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network (RMIAN) an organization serving low-income people in immigration proceedings and Jefferson County Open School (JCOS) – a public, alternative Pre-K through High School.
Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network (RMIAN), with whom we’ve partnered since 2018, provides essential pro bono legal representation to immigrant children in Colorado, many of whom who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected and are applying for permanent residency as Special Immigrant Juveniles (SIJS). Every applicant is intent on gaining legal status and living their lives safe from harm and to their maximum potential. They are all dependent on RMIAN’s ability to represent them individually and to file the complicated, required documents on their behalf.
SOC is the only resource these young people have to assist them with paying for the document filing fees, when they don’t have sufficient financial resources available to them. SOC also assists young RMIAN clients with occasional urgent or emergency needs.
Jefferson County Open School (JCOS) has been engaged in self-directed learning with kids for more than forty years. Curriculum at the Open School encourages student ownership of learning, demands documented or demonstrated competency of graduation requirements and allows for a highly individualized path towards graduation. Through self-direction, shared responsibility, and meaningful experiences, students realize their unique potential to create the world that ought to be.
SOC is working with JCOS advisors to assist individual students who are at risk, or who are in significant need of identified items, services, or opportunities.
