How many times have we read recent news stories and wondered: what can we do to make a difference?
SOC provided one-time rent assistance to a family from Venezuela with two small children (aged 4 and 7) when they suddenly faced eviction after the father was wrongly detained in an ICE sweep and forced to self- deport or risk being sent to an unknown location for an unknown period of time.
The mother was and still is awaiting the outcome of her pending asylum case while working. With both parents employed, each working when the other wasn’t, they could care for their kids – but with one of them removed, a crisis loomed and the mother lost her job. She quickly pivoted to baking cakes and other goods to keep the family afloat.
Supporters of Children stepped in at exactly the right time to help keep her and her two young daughters sheltered and safe.
