Writing has always been my outlet. Anytime waves of intensity crash over me, I write, any open-ended project I have to do, I write. I like to bring out people’s emotions, perhaps even unknown emotions that could rise to the surface after reading a piece of mine. I like when people can relate to my writing, so they know there’s others out there with similar experiences and emotions. If I can change people’s perspective or give them empathy specifically through my printouts, I would consider that a good outcome of my productions. Being able to be at the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop, where all I do is learn how to make these dreams a reality, will be life changing.
Going to the Kenyon College Writing Camp is an amazing opportunity. Unfortunately, I do need help paying for some aspects of it. My sister has type 1 diabetes and all of her insulin equipment is very costly, because of that, there’s not a ton of extra money to spend in my family.
SOC paid the tuition deposit along with a portion of travel expenses, and T.M. responded:
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to go to the Kenyon College Young Writers Seminar! It was an incredible experience and I learned so much about myself along the way. Originally going for the interest of playwriting, I found a new love for poetry and reading! I was inspired not only by amazing works of literature but also by the other students and teachers I was surrounded by. Again, thank you for giving me the opportunity to go to Kenyon, this was a life-changing trip, one I will never forget!
