Urgent Appeal for Rent Assistance

After his grandparents were murdered and he himself was shot, A., along with his wife, two young children, and other family members, fled to the U.S. in search of safety. They were building a promising new start, working hard and following the required legal steps, when an ICE enforcement action swept him up and he found himself in detention over a paperwork technicality.

In a massively overloaded immigration assistance system, A. and his family caught the attention of advocate Barb D. In December 2025, and again in April 2026, SofC was asked to help A. ‘s wife with partial rent payments to keep her and their two children safely housed. Thanks to our generous donors, we were able to provide that support while A.’s case moved through a habeas corpus petition, with hope that the family would soon be reunited.

UPDATE, Spring 2026: A. was released from ICE detention after his habeas corpus petition was filed, and his employer immediately hired him back.
The family has been reunited and is stabilizing.
